Revised ECRL project to cost RM44b

BEIJING, Apr 12 (Sin Chew Daily) – Prime minster's special envoy Tun Daim Zainuddin would hold a press conference at the Malaysian Embassy in Beijing later today.

Malaysia has earlier signed an agreement with China to revive the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project at 11.00 a.m. this morning.

Daim also said Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad would chair a press conference next Monday to reveal further details of the project.

He said cost of the revised project would be reduced by 32.8% from RM65.5 billion to RM44 billion.

He pointed out that the revised route would bypass Bentong, traveling from Kota Bharu to Mentakab before turning into Jelebu, Kuala Klawang, Bangi, Kajang, Putrajaya and terminating in Port Klang.

Sin Chew Daily has earlier reported that the revised project would cost between RM39 billion and RM46 billion.
