Jho Low not representing 1MDB: Arul Kanda

  • The 1MDB chief executive says Jho Low was only a middleman for PetroSaudi International in the PSI-1MDB deal.

JAKARTA, Apr 3 (MySinchew) -- 1MDB chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy tried to clarify his company's ties with tycoon Jho Low during a recent interview with Tempo of Indonesia.

Arul Kanda told Tempo Low was the advisor to 1MDB's predecessor Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA), but left only after a month in May 2009.

He also said Low was acting as a middleman for PetroSaudi International in a joint venture meeting between PetroSaudi and 1MDB in September 2009.

He insisted that Low was acting on behalf of PetroSaudi, not 1MDB, due to his familiarity with the businesses in the Middle East.

Arul Kanda also told Tempo Low had nothing to do with prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, although he was not sure how Low was related to Najib's stepson Riza Aziz.
