PETALING JAYA, Aug 17 (MySinchew) -- Minister in the prime minister's department Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan has said a change in federal administration could threaten peace and stability of the country.

A recent online survey conducted by Sin Chew Daily shows that an overwhelming 92% of readers "totally disagree" to the minister's view while 3% feel "this will not happen".

Meanwhile, only 2% of readers believe a change in government will "very likely" cause chaos while 1% feel that this will "possibly" happen.

A total of 4,774 readers polled during the four-hour survey on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, local political commentator Yap Swee Seng said Abdul Rahman's speech had been extremely irresponsible and was intimidating the voters not to change government.

However, he said changing government is a fundamental right of the people.

He was of the opinion that the biggest possibility that could spark chaos is when the ruling party loses the election but is unwilling to give up the power.

He said the ruling party would then use the excuse of so-called social unrest to legitimize its continued rule, like what happened before in Thailand or during Suharto's rule in Indonesia.
