BN's decision anticipated: Mahfodz

  • PAS Ulama Council chairman says his party will table the RUU355 amendment bill according to Hadi Awang's plan, and that BN's decision not to take over the bill has been anticipated.

PETALING JAYA, Mar 30 (MySinchew) -- PAS Ulama Council chairman Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamad said his party would table the RUU355 amendment bill in the Parliament according to party president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang's plan.

He said it was anticipated that BN decided not to take over the bill.

"We anticipated this. We knew BN would not table the bill in the Parliament because they had not instructed Umno MPs to support the bill besides the fact that other BN components are mostly non-Muslim parties."

Mahfodz said PAS had tried to reduce the differences between itself and Umno through a matured political model, but now Umno's stand was very obvious.

Meanwhile, PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad said, "We feel disappointed. This thing should not have happened because it involves the affairs of us Muslims."

He insisted that PAS would remain in the opposition camp and would continue to fight Umno.

PAS information chief Nasrudin Hasan said his party felt uneasy with BN's decision.

He said the only difference between the amendment bill tabled by the government and PAS was the order in the agenda.

"If it is the government's bill, it will be prioritized for debate, and if it is a private member's bill, it will then depend on the Speaker's decision.

"Anyway, we are ready to debate this in the Dewan Rakyat any time."
